Hammerson Hall is the largest performing space in The Living Arts Centre, which opened its doors to the public in 1997. The Centre is home to various performance and visual arts facility for the community of Mississauga. Royal Bank Theatre, rehearsal spaces, a cinema theater, and complete backstage facilities support touring and local performance groups, while a separate wing of the building contains visual and sculptural arts, broadcasting, and photography workshops and studios for community access.
At 1500-seats Hammerson is a state-of-the-art theater able to accommodate a wide variety of performances. The 1999 Canada Music Week award-winner for Best Venue of its size, the Hall has no seat farther than 125 feet from the stage which ensures excellent sightlines from all three levels. Featuring an acoustical shell, the Hall is flawlessly suited for full-scale Broadway plays, concerts, major touring productions, and community events. The walls of the shell are constructed by moving the required number of concert towers into the desired position. Concert towers can be stored in an up-stage storage area when not in use. Reconfiguration of the orchestra pit can create seating or extra stage space.
The Centre serves as a home to dozens of amateur and professional arts organizations, as well as community theater. Centre programming includes a range of performances, workshops, camps, and courses.
